Wellness real estate: what it is and why it is reaching the detached home

Wellness real estate means homes and spaces designed to look after the health of the people who live in them. Until recently it was associated with large developments with a social club, spa or communal gym. Today it is starting to reach the house with a garden.

What wellness real estate is

The Global Wellness Institute defines it as the construction and design of homes and environments that actively promote the physical and mental wellbeing of the people living in them. It is not a decorative style. It is a way of thinking about the home: natural light, healthy materials, room to move, places to switch off.

It ranges from entire neighbourhoods planned around wellbeing to small decisions within a plot: where you train, where you rest, what you see from the window.

Why it is talked about so much

Because it is the fastest-growing segment of the entire wellness economy. According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness real estate reached 584 billion dollars in 2024 and is growing at an annual rate of 19.5%, almost four times faster than conventional construction. The same source expects it to exceed one trillion dollars in 2029.

Behind that figure is a shift in priorities. Knight Frank, in *The Wealth Report 2025*, places health and wellbeing as the top spending priority for high-net-worth individuals. Wellbeing has stopped being an extra and become a criterion.

From the large development to your own plot

In Spain, the trend shows first in high-end developments: according to The Simple Rent (*España Premium 2025*), searches for developments with a wellness centre have doubled.

But a very large share of households do not live in those developments. 34.7% of the Spanish population lives in a detached or semi-detached house (Eurostat, 2024). For them, wellness real estate does not arrive as a communal spa, but as a simpler question: what use can that corner of the garden have.

How it translates into a house with a garden

Applied to a detached home, wellness real estate usually comes down to three things:

  • A place of your own to move. Not a corner of the living room, but a space with its own purpose.
  • Separation from domestic life. Crossing the garden is already the first step towards switching off.
  • Architecture, not an accessory. A space that converses with the house and the landscape, instead of a storeroom with machines.

Supercubo Home answers that idea with a private gym made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) from Galician pine: 2.50 × 3.00 m, with natural light and the sports equipment included. It arrives assembled and is placed in the garden with no building work, in around 30 days from reservation.
